Hyundai Motor Company recorded a 7.7% year-on-year decrease in sales, selling 325,473 units worldwide in May 2026. Production disruptions caused by parts supply issues from partner companies led to the sluggish sales.
◾ Domestic Market: Down 23.1% YoY Domestic market sales in May totaled 45,364 units, a 23.1% decrease compared to the same period last year. The detailed performance by vehicle type is as follows.
- Sedans: A total of 14,876 units, including 5,183 Grandeur, 4,526 Avante, and 4,118 Sonata units
- RVs: A total of 15,799 units, including 2,862 Santa Fe, 2,575 Ioniq 5, and 2,183 Tucson units
- Light Commercial Vehicles: A total of 6,312 units, including 4,270 Porter and 1,912 Staria units
- Medium and Large Commercial Vehicles: 2,216 buses and trucks
- Genesis: A total of 6,161 units, including 2,220 G80, 1,798 GV70, and 1,547 GV80 units
◾ Overseas Markets: Up 3.0% MoM Overseas sales recorded 280,109 units, marking a 4.6% decrease compared to the same month last year. However, compared to the previous month, it increased by 3.0%, showing signs of a rebound. Cumulative overseas sales from January to May this year stood at 1,369,142 units, down 3.2% from the same period last year.
◾ Future Outlook: A Hyundai Motor official explained the background of the slow performance, stating, "The production decrease caused by parts supply disruptions from partner companies continued this month, limiting the supply of major vehicle models." They added, "As the deliveries of The New Grandeur begin in earnest this month, we expect sales performance to gradually recover."
