Ripple (XRP) Mainnet to Change Once Again... Software Name Also Changes with Announcement of XRPL 3.2.0 Release

According to Coingape, the XRP Ledger (XRPL) ecosystem supported by Ripple is preparing for a new mainnet upgrade. XRP Ledger Operations announced on X (formerly Twitter) on June 4 (local time) that "XRP Ledger version 3.2.0 will be released soon."

The most notable change in this update is the renaming of the network's core software. According to the announcement cited by Coingape, the name of the core software powering the XRPL will be changed from 'rippled' to 'xrpld'. Consequently, infrastructure providers, validators, and node operators must update their related systems before the transition to the new mainnet. XRP Ledger Operations explained, "This transition requires some updates from infrastructure operators."

Coingape reported that XRP Ledger Operations is preparing a playbook to support the update process. A GIF image released alongside the announcement showed the command line prompt changing to 'xrpld' and the version check screen displaying 'xrpld version 3.2.0'. Coingape explained that this highlights the new brand of the software package powering the XRP Ledger and the upcoming release version.

This news received a positive response from Vet, a dUNL validator. Vet told Coingape, "Market sentiment is temporary, but improvements to the core protocols that underpin XRP and other assets are permanent." He further emphasized, "The upcoming upgrade will feature a major name change from rippled to xrpld," and expressed gratitude to the network developers, stating, "I appreciate the continuous efforts of all XRP core developers."

Meanwhile, the release of version 3.2.0 follows the XRPL version 3.1.3 update implemented on May 27 (local time). According to Coingape at the time, version 3.1.3, which was successfully applied to the mainnet based on ledger index 104,507,137, aimed to enhance the long-term stability of the network by applying the 'fixCleanup3_1_3' amendment. During this process, the XRP Ledger required nodes using older software versions to upgrade in order to participate in consensus and network operations.
