According to the Korea Gold Exchange on June 18, silver prices were recorded at 14,070 won for buying and 11,770 won for selling. Compared to the previous trading day, the buying price fell by 1.42% (200 won) and the selling price declined by 1.44% (170 won), showing a weak trend.

Silver prices are exhibiting expanding short-term volatility as pressure from the recent strength of the U.S. dollar and rising Treasury yields has once again come to the forefront. In particular, the Federal Reserve's overnight signaling of the possibility of additional tightening also weighed on the market.

While silver is generally classified as a major precious metal alongside gold, its high proportion of industrial demand in sectors such as solar power, electric vehicles, and semiconductors means it is also significantly influenced by macroeconomic outlooks and tech stock trends. Since silver is an essential material used in the production of solar panels and electronic components, it has the characteristic of reacting sensitively to changes in investment outlooks for related industries.

The market expects that for the time being, remarks by Federal Reserve officials, U.S. inflation indicators, and Treasury yield movements will serve as key variables for silver prices. However, some analyses note that the outlook for industrial demand driven by the global energy transition and the expansion of AI infrastructure remains valid.

Investors are closely watching the direction of the precious metals market, including silver, by gauging the Fed's future policy direction through upcoming U.S. economic indicators.
