Samsung Group founder Lee Byung-chul took the top spot for the fourth consecutive month in the 'Hall of Fame: Immortal Chairman' category of the May Netizen Awards.
Continuing his winning streak that began in February, Chairman Lee secured a total of 648 votes (41.1%) in this month's poll. He raised his support rate by 1.2 percentage points compared to the 39.9% recorded last month, further solidifying his overwhelming lead in the category.
At the top of the rankings, a solid two-way race among heavyweight entrepreneurs symbolizing Korea's economic history continued. Hyundai Group Honorary Chairman Chung Ju-yung earned 504 votes (31.9%), firmly defending his second-place spot. Honorary Chairman Chung also saw a slight increase in his support rate compared to last month, forming a powerful top-two system with Chairman Lee that combined for 73% of the total votes. Following them, Yuhan Corporation founder Yoo Il-han recorded 236 votes (15.0%), rounding out the top tier of the lineup in third place. A fierce ranking competition unfolded in the middle tier. POSCO Honorary Chairman Park Tae-joon defended his 4th place spot with 70 votes (4.4%). Lotte Group founder Shin Kyuk-ho recorded 66 votes (4.2%), jumping one spot to 5th place, while Hanwha Group founder Kim Jong-hee was limited to 36 votes (2.3%), adjusting his rank to 6th from last month's 5th place. Former LG Group Chairman Koo Bon-moo secured 6 votes (0.4%), settling in 7th place.
At the bottom of the rankings, former chairmen who drove Korea's industrial growth tied in rank. Doosan Group's first chairman Park Doo-byung, Hanjin Group founder Cho Jung-hoon, and former SK Group Chairman Choi Jong-hyon each secured 4 votes (0.3%), sharing 8th place and concluding the poll.
Amid the enthusiastic participation of fans honoring the entrepreneurial spirit, these results foreshadow a fierce battle for votes in the upcoming voting races.
