In the voting results for the Businessperson of the Year in the corporate category at the May Netizen Awards, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong defended his top spot.
In this vote, which closed on the 31st of last month, Chairman Lee Jae-yong won a total of 1,835 votes, taking first place with a vote share of 46.8%. Although his voting share saw a slight adjustment this month, Chairman Lee, who garnered support approaching a majority last month, solidified his lead with an unrivaled figure, continuing his consecutive winning streak.
In the top tier, the pursuit by Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun continued, forming a solid top-two structure. Chairman Chung Eui-sun secured second place firmly with 1,033 votes (26.4%). Raising his support rate by 0.7 percentage points from 25.7% last month, Chairman Chung combined with Chairman Lee to capture 73.2% of the total vote, firmly establishing a powerful two-horse system in the businessperson category.
In the battle for mid-to-high rankings, the fortunes of the executives who tied for third place last month were mixed, leading to a reshuffling of the ranks. Shinsegae Group Chairman Chung Yong-jin rose to a sole third place with 288 votes (7.3%), while Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin secured 201 votes (5.1%), settling in fourth place, up one step. On the other hand, Hotel Shilla CEO Lee Boo-jin, who was tied for third place last month, saw her vote count somewhat falter, earning 182 votes (4.6%) and dropping to fifth place.
A fierce voting competition continued in the 6th to 8th place range. CJ Group Chairman Lee Jae-hyun took sole sixth place with 142 votes (3.6%), and Hanwha Group Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan, who newly entered the rankings, placed 7th with 116 votes (3.0%). This was followed by LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, who settled in 8th place with 105 votes (2.7%).
In the lower ranks, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won placed 9th with 9 votes (0.2%), and Naver GIO Lee Hae-jin recorded 10th with 8 votes (0.2%), wrapping up this month's Businessperson of the Year vote.
