On the 31st, three days ahead of the June 3 local elections, People Power Party (PPP) Seoul mayoral candidate Oh Se-hoon toured Seoul in a final bid to win over voters. Emphasizing the need to check the government and the ruling party, Oh made the promotion of reconstruction and redevelopment projects, along with the expansion of housing supply, his core campaign pledges.
Visiting Amsa Comprehensive Market in Gangdong-gu that day, Oh appealed for support, stating, "A voter's single ballot is more powerful than any authority." He argued that the election results will impact not only Seoul's policy direction but also whether the central government is kept in check. In particular, citing the recent early voting process and the ruling bloc's legislative moves, he emphasized that "the Seoul mayoral election could serve as a crucial turning point to maintain a balance of power."
Starting in Gangdong-gu, Oh made a series of stops at Jamsil Sports Complex in Songpa-gu, Sinheung Market in Yongsan-gu, and Dongmyeong Flea Market in Jongno-gu. In Jamsil, he greeted citizens watching a professional baseball game, while at traditional markets and dense commercial districts, he took the time to communicate directly with merchants and residents.
The most heavily emphasized policy of the day was the expansion of housing supply. Oh hit the campaign trail wearing a shirt bearing the number '578,' symbolizing the 578 reconstruction, redevelopment, and 'Moatown' maintenance project zones in Seoul. "Normalizing maintenance projects is essential to solving Seoul's housing supply problem," he stated, adding, "I will accelerate the pace of these 578 projects to pursue the start of construction on 310,000 housing units by 2031." He further vowed to improve various regulations by easing loan restrictions on relocation expenses for maintenance projects and lifting the ban on the transfer of union membership status.
Oh also poured out pledges during a press conference held at his campaign headquarters in Jongno-gu. He outlined a plan to utilize his right to attend Cabinet meetings—a privilege granted exclusively to him among local government heads, accompanied by minister-level treatment upon re-election—to directly convey the demands of Seoul citizens to the government. In the real estate sector, he proposed normalizing maintenance projects, expanding the supply of private rental housing, and easing the real estate tax burden. He also explained that he would push for regulatory improvements to revitalize the everyday economy and bolster the competitiveness of the capital region.
Political clashes are also intensifying in the final stretch of the election. In response to safety-related offensives from Democratic Party of Korea candidate Jung Won-oh, Oh confronted the attacks head-on, stating, "I will conduct this campaign focused on issues directly tied to the lives of Seoul citizens." Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is countering by highlighting safety policies and city administration capabilities as key issues.
Oh is also focusing on winning over moderate voters by maintaining a separate campaign schedule alongside key PPP leadership figures. As the Seoul mayoral election is evaluated as the core battleground that will gauge the overall landscape of the nationwide local elections, both the ruling and opposition parties are expected to wage an all-out campaign until election day.
