With his first anniversary in office approaching, he is communicating with the public through various public opinion polls and policy reviews, presenting the direction for state administration in the second half of the year.
Presidential Job Approval Rating Records 59.1%... Slight Decline Due to Safety Issues According to a survey conducted by Realmeter at the request of the Energy Economic Daily from May 26 to 29 targeting 2,008 adult voters aged 18 and older nationwide, President Lee Jae-myung's job approval rating was tallied at 59.1%. This is a 0.2 percentage point drop from the previous week, marking a decline for two consecutive weeks. Negative evaluations rose by 0.7 percentage points to 36.8%, while the response "Don't know" recorded 4.2%.
Realmeter analyzed that despite economic boons such as the KOSPI breaking its all-time high, adverse factors in the safety sector like the Sosomun collapse disaster and the consolidation of conservative voters due to former President Park Geun-hye's campaign support for the People Power Party acted as factors for the decline in approval. The survey was conducted using a wireless automated response method, and the political party approval survey was not disclosed in accordance with the publication ban period for the June 3 local elections.
"Eradicate Unearned Real Estate Income"... 780 Tax Evasion Reports Received President Lee Jae-myung expressed his strong will to eradicate illegal speculation and tax evasion in the real estate market. Emphasizing via X (formerly Twitter), the President said, "We will surely escape the ruinous republic of unearned real estate income," and added, "Illegal speculation and tax evasion in real estate are no longer allowed."
A total of 780 reports of suspected tax evasion were received by the real estate tax evasion reporting center operated by the National Tax Service during the five months since its inception. About 80% of these were concentrated in the Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon areas. This is according to data analyzed by the office of Representative Cha Kyu-geun of the Rebuilding Korea Party (a member of the National Assembly's Strategy and Finance Committee).
Urging Voter Participation and Expressing Appreciation to National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik Ahead of the June 3 local elections, President Lee repeatedly urged the public to participate in voting. Quoting Plato, he noted, "The price of political apathy is being ruled by the worst of scoundrels," and pointed out, "The silence of sovereign citizens and giving up on voting provides opportunities for those who abuse power for personal gain." The early voting rate for this local election recorded an all-time high of 23.51%.
He also expressed his gratitude to outgoing National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik. President Lee highly praised the leadership and the value of dialogue and compromise demonstrated by Speaker Woo during the December 3 insurrection crisis, mentioning Speaker Woo's belief that "Politics is the strongest weapon for the weak."
Tax Delinquency Management Unit Collects 10 Billion Won in 80 Days... Visit to Busan Namhang Market The President also expressed satisfaction with the results achieved by the National Tax Service's Delinquency Management Unit for national and non-tax revenues. The Delinquency Management Unit, operated with a budget of 4.2 billion won and a staff of 500, collected 9.977 billion won in delinquent taxes in just 80 days. President Lee commended the efforts of National Tax Service Commissioner Lim Gwang-hyun and announced plans to expand the unit by additionally hiring 9,500 temporary workers in the second half of the year.
President Lee and his wife visited Busan's Yeongdo Namhang Market on the 27th and Jagalchi Market the day before, spending time communicating with citizens. They purchased groceries using Onnuri gift certificates and conversed with market merchants, and ate raw fish and stew at a restaurant, showing empathy for the struggles of population decline shared by the nearby merchant association president.
