Hanwha Ocean (042660) plunged during Friday's trading session on the 26th, breaching the 100,000-won mark for the first time in approximately six months since October 14 of last year. According to the Korea Exchange (KRX), Hanwha Ocean closed at 98,000 won, down 7,600 won (7.20%) from the previous trading day.

The KOSPI also recorded 8,411.21, down 519.09 points (5.81%) from the previous trading day, as the broader market weakness continued, significantly dampening investor sentiment. Hanwha Ocean was unable to escape the impact of this large-scale market downturn, widening its losses.

Market attention is currently focused on the announcement of the preferred bidder for Canada's next-generation submarine project, which is expected between late June and July. Hanwha Ocean is engaged in a final competition with Germany's ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) for the project, which is worth up to 60 trillion won.

The industry evaluates this project as a key large-scale initiative that will gauge Hanwha Ocean's future global defense competitiveness. Therefore, while short-term stock prices will be influenced by overall market volatility, the prevailing forecast is that investor sentiment and the stock's direction could be significantly determined by the final outcome of the Canadian submarine project.
