PEOPLE I'VE MET, a New York-based three-piece band featuring Moses Martin, son of world-renowned Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, shared their musical philosophy and affection for Korean fans.
In an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone Korea, the entire band — including vocalist and guitarist Moses Martin, along with ORLANDO and ANDREW — participated in a detailed discussion about the creative process behind their new release and the band's identity.
Having recently released their new EP 'BUNNY,' the band described the work as "a truly proud album." Regarding the music video for the title track 'BASTARDS,' they explained that they used symbolic scenes of a 'car accident' and a 'stretcher' to express the sense of alienation and dissonant emotions of not easily blending into their surroundings. Moses Martin stated, "Recalling the lyrics 'Her boyfriend thinks I'm in love with her / Cause I probably am,' I wanted to capture the young, clumsy, and mistake-filled emotions of youth."
They also addressed building a musical world imbued with a cinematic sensibility. Moses Martin cited the films 'Breathless' and 'Punch-Drunk Love' as major inspirations, adding, "If each person listening to our music can recall their own memories and emotions within their unconscious, that is exactly what we hope for."
Regarding this musical direction, member ORLANDO defined the band's music as 'Youthful Rebellion.' He explained, "The youthful desire to live the way we want while enjoying life, along with a dreamlike, nostalgia-evoking emotion, is at the core of our music." The members also highlighted their free and close-knit team dynamic. Notably, they maintain such a strong bond that they refer to ANDREW as the 'mom of the band,' and noted that this atmosphere has a positive impact on their creative process.
Meanwhile, their anticipation for visiting Korea was also remarkable. Moses Martin said, "I definitely want to visit Korea someday," adding, "I was deeply impressed by the atmosphere of respect for Korean culture, music, and artists. If we get to go to Korea, I want to visit the underground bands and live clubs in Hongdae and meet Korean fans in person."
Rolling Stone Korea, which conducted the interview, added significance by stating, "We are thrilled to introduce to our domestic readers the story of PEOPLE I'VE MET, a band that carries on the heritage of world-class artists while building their own unique musical world."
