Ripple Obtains Formal MiCA Authorization in Luxembourg… Expands Business with 'Passporting' Across 30 European Markets

On the 6th (local time), overseas cryptocurrency media outlet CoinGape reported that Ripple has obtained formal authorization as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) in Luxembourg.
With this authorization, Ripple can now provide regulated digital asset services across the entire European Economic Area (EEA) under the European Union's (EU) cryptocurrency market regulation framework (MiCA).
According to CoinGape, Luxembourg's financial regulator, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), converted the preliminary approval previously granted to Ripple into a formal operating license. This enables Ripple to offer its regulated cryptocurrency payment platform to banks, financial institutions, and corporate clients across 30 EEA markets.
The timing of this approval coincides with the start of the post-MiCA transition phase, during which cryptocurrency companies must complete their business operations in Europe in compliance with the new regulatory framework.
Securing 'Passporting' Rights to Expand Cross-Border Business
CoinGape also reported that Ripple has secured so-called 'passporting' rights through this Luxembourg CASP authorization. This refers to the right to expand business across all EU member states without undergoing separate authorization procedures in each country.
Cash Croad, Ripple's Managing Director for the UK and Europe, explained the significance of this authorization through CoinGape. He stated, "This CASP authorization signifies that Ripple is fully prepared to expand its business in full compliance with regulations in the post-MiCA transition era," adding, "European institutional clients want to build digital asset services with regulated partners, and Ripple is equipped with the necessary authorizations to meet this demand."
Meanwhile, this CASP authorization adds to the EU Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license that Ripple already holds. As a result, Ripple has joined the ranks of select cryptocurrency companies that possess both formal MiCA authorization and an electronic payment license.
Ripple stated that this authorization has further strengthened its global regulatory foundation. According to CoinGape, Ripple currently holds over 75 regulatory licenses and registrations across multiple countries, leveraging them to support its cross-border payment and digital asset infrastructure businesses.
