Global Stock Markets and Geopolitical Risk

Overnight, the New York stock market closed lower across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished at 52,924, while the S&P 500 index closed at 7,503 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index fell to 25,818. The Russell 2000 index, composed of small- and mid-cap stocks, also closed at 2,982.

Heightened geopolitical risk contributed to this market anxiety. U.S. Central Command announced via X that it had launched airstrikes against Iran, which had attacked a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
