The KBS 2TV Saturday-Sunday miniseries 'The Completion of Marriage' saw a sharp surge in viewership ratings in just two episodes, setting a new personal best.
The second episode, broadcast on the 5th, recorded a nationwide rating of 6.4% and a peak of 7.2% in the Bundang area, according to Nielsen Korea. This marks a 2 percentage point increase from the first episode, proving the drama's strong upward momentum.
Immediately after its premiere, 'The Completion of Marriage' ranked No. 1 on the global OTT platform Disney+'s 'Today's Top 10 Series in Korea.' Additionally, it ranked 6th in the TV-OTT buzzworthy drama category and 4th in the TV buzzworthy drama category in the Good Data Corporation Fundex Report, generating buzz across multiple fronts.
The work's popularity is attributed to the actors' performances, its unique subject matter, and its directing. Namgoong Min plays the role of Kang Tae-ju, a neurosurgery specialist whose character undergoes a dramatic transformation following his wife's kidnapping. Kim Daemyung portrays kidnapper Noh Man-hee, delivering a performance that oscillates between madness and cold composure, while Lee Seol delicately depicts the psychology of Go Se-yoon, who fights for survival amid extreme fear and despair.
Unlike conventional crime thrillers, the story begins with a groundbreaking premise: a husband, in a drunken state, requests someone to 'please get rid of my wife,' coinciding with her kidnapping. The kidnapper is revealed early on, and the narrative centers on the motives behind the incident and the psychological warfare between characters. Its unpredictable developments, successive twists, and a structure where every character falls under suspicion keep viewers on edge.
In terms of directing, the chase between Kang Tae-ju and Noh Man-hee, as well as Go Se-yoon's desperate struggle for survival, are captured with urgency through dynamic camera work and striking visual aesthetics. Close-up shots used to portray characters' inner psychology and foreshadowing further heighten the sense of immersion.
Meanwhile, the drama was produced with support from the Broadcasting Communications Development Fund of the Korea Communications Commission, and its third episode is scheduled to air on the 11th at 9:20 PM.
The production team stated, 'We are grateful for the passionate interest and support you have shown us despite only two episodes having aired so far,' and added, 'Even bigger twists and unpredictable developments than what we have seen so far are in store, so please stay tuned until the end.' They continued, 'From unforeseeable incidents to the flow of characters' psychology and emotional arcs, we will showcase the essence of a well-made production,' and added, 'As the episodes progress, the hidden truths and the reality of the incident will be revealed even more intensely. Please look forward to what is to come.'
