As geopolitical tensions in the Middle East escalated, the domestic stock market took a direct hit, with the share price of Hanwha Ocean (042660) also plummeting to fall below the 80,000 won mark.
On the 13th, in the Korea Exchange (KRX) trading session, Hanwha Ocean closed at 78,800 won, down 2,500 won (3.08%) from the previous trading day. During the session, the price dropped to as low as 78,100 won, failing to break out of a bearish trend throughout the day. This decline is interpreted as the result of a flood of sell-offs by both foreign and institutional investors as geopolitical risks originating from the Middle East reignited.
Previously, Hanwha Ocean had closed below 80,000 won on the 9th but rebounded in the following session on the 10th to reclaim the 80,000 won level. However, due to the subsequent downward trend, it has once again dropped below 80,000 won.
On this day, both major domestic stock indices also showed sharp declines. The KOSPI index closed at a plunging 6,806.93, down a staggering 669.01 points (8.94%) from the previous trading day, causing the 7,000-point level to collapse. During the session, sell-side circuit breakers and trading curbs were triggered in succession, sending the overall market into shock. The KOSDAQ index also finished the session at 799.36, down 38.07 points (4.54%), slipping below the 800-point mark.
Experts diagnosed that the sharp decline, centered on large-cap stocks such as semiconductors, combined with geopolitical uncertainty, is acting as downward pressure on the overall stock market. Accordingly, they advised that a conservative approach is necessary for the time being while monitoring the trajectory of external risks.
