Ripple has been officially added to the registered entities list of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), the European Union's core cryptocurrency regulatory framework. This is expected to significantly strengthen the real-world utility foundation for XRP, the XRP Ledger (XRPL), and RLUSD within Europe.
According to overseas crypto media outlet CoinGape on the 12th, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) newly included Ripple Payments Europe, Ripple's European payments business division, in the MiCA register. With this registration, Ripple Payments Europe has secured status as an authorized Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP), enabling it to offer crypto-asset-related services across 29 EU countries.
ESMA added a total of 14 companies, including Ripple Payments Europe, to the MiCA register in this round. As a result, the number of approved CASPs has increased to 294 in total. However, the pace of new approvals has noticeably slowed since the MiCA transition period ended on July 1 (local time).
The 14 newly registered entities include traditional finance (tradFi) institutions such as Portugal's Bison Bank, Croatia's state-owned Hrvatska poštanska banka, and Kaiser Partner Privatbank. CoinGape analyzed that these movements demonstrate that banks and traditional financial institutions are also actively applying for CASP licenses under the MiCA framework.
In the same context, CoinGape reported that BitPay recently obtained a MiCA license from Dutch financial authorities. Through this, BitPay plans to expand its virtual asset and stablecoin payment services across Europe.
■ Additional Regulatory Approval Following Luxembourg License
Previously, CoinGape reported that Ripple had received an official CASP authorization in Luxembourg. Through this license, Ripple was able to expand its virtual asset services targeting financial institutions and businesses across 30 countries in the European Economic Area (EEA).
By combining its existing Luxembourg Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license with this new CASP license, Ripple can now fully provide its virtual asset and stablecoin payment infrastructure. European banks, fintech companies, and general enterprises can access fund receipt, exchange, and payment services by integrating with just a single system.
CoinGape reported that this authorization follows Ripple's acquisition of a UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) license and the expansion of partnerships within Europe. Furthermore, it projected that securing such regulatory approvals will contribute to strengthening real-world use cases for XRP, the XRP Ledger (XRPL), and RLUSD associated with Ripple.
