Hanwha Ocean (042660) failed to hold onto its gains from the pre-market alternative trading system (NXT) and the early regular session on the 20th, closing lower. With the short-term uptrend broken, market attention is focused on whether the stock can defend the 80,000-won level and the possibility of reigniting rebound momentum.
The closing price was 83,200 won, down 3,500 won (4.04%) from the previous trading day. In the pre-market NXT session, the price had briefly surpassed the 90,000-won level. While the stock demonstrated strength during the pre-market NXT and early regular session, boosting investor sentiment, it turned lower as profit-taking sell-offs emerged during the session and coincided with broader market weakness. Although it closed above the 80,000-won level, it surrendered all of its intraday gains.
The broader domestic market also struggled. The KOSPI fell 304.33 points (4.46%) to close at 6,516.27, while the KOSDAQ dropped 42.20 points (5.32%) to finish at 749.64, with both indices undergoing sharp corrections that dampened investor sentiment.
The market is watching whether the 80,000-won level can continue to serve as a support line in the short term. If this price level is defended stably, rebound attempts are likely to continue, but if volatility expands, further corrections cannot be ruled out, according to analysts.
Medium- to long-term issues also remain a持续 focus for investors. Amid growing expectations for expanded cooperation between the U.S. and South Korean shipbuilding industries, Hanwha Group's acquired Hanwha Philly Shipyard, together with U.S. ship management company TOTE Services, was selected as the builder for the U.S. Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) next-generation Missile Measurement and Range Instrumentation Vessel (MRIV). Additionally, various business developments, including the outcome of the 'MUSKA' project, are cited as variables that could influence future investor sentiment.
However, the market consensus is that in the short term, the recovery of broader market investor sentiment and changes in supply and demand are likely to dictate the stock's price trajectory.
