The KOSPI has broken below the 6000 level, recording a double-digit decline.

As of 3:11 p.m. on the 28th, the KOSPI index is trading at 5999.88, down 11.19% from the previous trading day. Investor sentiment contracted sharply, triggering a wave of selling, and the 6000 level—considered a psychological support line—collapsed during the session, causing market volatility to expand to extreme levels.

On the Korea Exchange today, a 'sidecar,' which temporarily halts the effect of program sell orders, was triggered first due to the sharp stock price decline. Subsequently, as the drop widened further, a 'circuit breaker,' which halts all stock trading entirely, was also activated.

Market participants note that selling pressure is spreading across large-cap stocks such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix as well as top market-cap stocks broadly, and that close attention to volatility trends is necessary until the market close.
