A Level 1 Circuit Breaker (CB) was triggered on the KOSPI market as the index plunged more than 8% during trading hours.

The Korea Exchange announced that on July 28, 2026, at 10:13:43 a.m., it suspended trading on the securities market for 20 minutes after the KOSPI index remained down more than 8% from the previous day's closing price for one minute. At the time of activation, the KOSPI index stood at 6,213.51, down 542.24 points (-8.02%) from the previous day's closing price of 6,755.75.

Regarding the measure, the Exchange explained, "The Level 1 Circuit Breaker was triggered because the KOSPI Composite Stock Price Index remained down more than 8% from the previous day's closing index for one minute."

The conditions for expanded circuit breaker activation in the event of further declines during trading hours are as follows.

  • Level 2 Circuit Breaker: Triggered if the index falls 15% or more from the previous day's closing price and remains more than 1% below the Level 1 activation index for one minute (trading halted for 20 minutes).
  • Level 3 Circuit Breaker: Triggered if, after Level 2 activation, the index falls 20% or more from the previous day's closing price and remains more than 1% below the Level 2 activation index for one minute (trading on the securities market closed for the day).

This measure was taken in accordance with Article 25 of the Securities Market Business Regulations and Article 39 of the Enforcement Detailed Rules of the same regulations.
