The Korea Exchange announced on the 29th that it triggered a sell-side sidecar for the securities market (KOSPI) in the morning. This measure was implemented at 10:55:07 a.m. on July 29, 2026.

The action was taken after the price of futures based on KOSPI 200 (the highest-traded contract on the previous trading day) remained down 5% or more from the base price for one minute. According to the disclosure, the current price of the futures stood at 903.80 points, a plunge of 49.16 points (-5.15%) from the base price of 952.96 points.

Accordingly, program sell orders in the KOSPI market will be suspended for five minutes from the time of activation. A sidecar is a market stabilization mechanism that temporarily halts the execution of program trading orders to mitigate the impact on the spot market when futures prices surge or plunge sharply. This measure was implemented in accordance with Article 16 of the Securities Market Business Regulations.

Meanwhile, the KOSPI started the session with early strength today but later reversed to weakness, showing a sharp downward trend.
