On the 29th, investor sentiment contracted significantly as SK Hynix (000660) shares plunged, triggering a Volatility Interruption (VI).

As of 11:15 a.m., SK Hynix is trading at 1,404,000 won, down 146,000 won (9.42%) from the previous trading day. Selling pressure poured in from the start of the session, sharply expanding volatility, and during trading hours, the stock temporarily fell below the 1.4 million won level, widening its losses.

Eventually, a static VI was triggered at 10:57:17 a.m. and lifted approximately two minutes later at 10:59:22 a.m.

This weakness is spreading to the broader domestic stock market. Both KOSPI and KOSDAQ recorded steep declines, with sell-side circuit breakers triggered in both markets, temporarily halting program trading and significantly amplifying market volatility.

In particular, profit-taking sell-offs and risk-off sentiment persist across the semiconductor sector overall, with major semiconductor stocks including Samsung Electronics also moving in tandem to the downside.

The market views the upcoming U.S. Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) results, global semiconductor industry conditions, and changes in foreign investor flows as key variables that will determine the stock price trends of domestic stocks, including SK Hynix. However, some point out that hasty market predictions should be avoided given the highly volatile market environment.
