The KOSPI and KOSDAQ initially climbed in early trading before losing ground to selling pressure and both turning lower.
As of 9:45 a.m. on the 30th, the KOSPI is down 110.68 points, or 1.95%, from the previous trading day, trading at 5,552.56. The index had risen as high as 5,740.72 earlier in the session, appearing to sustain its upward momentum, but subsequently gave up all of its gains and retreated into negative territory. At the same time, the KOSDAQ is trading at 651.03, down 11.65 points, or 1.75%. The KOSDAQ also rose to as high as 675.91 in early trading before sharply reversing course.
While expectations had built for a strong rebound, the brief nature of the rally has reignited uncertainty about the market's direction. Investor sentiment is shifting rapidly, contributing to an expanding trend in index volatility.
However, the broader market is not moving uniformly. A "differentiated market" pattern continues, with mixed fortunes across sectors and individual stocks. While some stocks are maintaining their strength, others are deepening their losses, underscoring a stark divergence.
Accordingly, market analysts suggest that given the heightened index volatility, investors should focus more closely on supply and demand dynamics and individual stock trends rather than the overall direction of the index in the near term.
