On the 31st, Gyeonggi Province held the '2026 Gyeonggi Residents' Children Scholarship Certificate Ceremony' at Pyeonghwa Nuri Hall in the Northern Provincial Office, presenting a total of 1.6 billion won in scholarships to 463 children of residents this year. The event was organized by the Gyeonggi Residents' Association Scholarship Foundation.

[Scholarship Eligibility and Amounts] Scholarship recipients are children of residents whose parents have been continuously registered as Gyeonggi Province residents for at least three years. Eligible students include those currently enrolled in domestic schools or planning to enter, transfer, or return to school, with no age restriction. In the event of parental death, students may apply based on their own period of residence within the province.

• The scholarship amounts are as follows:
• General university students: up to 4 million won
• Junior college students: up to 3 million won
• Cyber university and broadcasting & correspondence university students: up to 600,000 won
• Arts and athletics specialty scholarship students: 1.5 million won

[Selection Process and Scholarship Foundation History] The scholarship foundation evaluated 1,167 applicants this year based on eligibility criteria, income level, academic performance, multi-child household status, and volunteer activities, ultimately selecting 463 recipients.

Established in 1986, the Gyeonggi Residents' Association Scholarship Foundation has been dedicated to discovering and nurturing outstanding local talent and creating a forward-looking educational environment. As a result, from 1988 to 2025, Gyeonggi Province has provided approximately 31.6 billion won in cumulative scholarships to 19,654 students.

[Governor Choo Mi-ae's Congratulatory Address and Remarks] Approximately 230 people attended the ceremony, including Gyeonggi Governor Choo Mi-ae, scholarship recipients from the northern Gyeonggi region, their families, and scholarship foundation officials, making it a meaningful occasion.

Governor Choo congratulated the scholarship recipients and expressed her gratitude to the parents for their dedication to raising future talent. She then reflected on the difficulties she faced during her school years and college admission process, recalling the time when she dreamed of becoming a judge. She emphasized the importance of the scholarship system, noting that it played a significant role in helping her pass the bar exam and serve as a judge for ten years.

Governor Choo said, "When a young bird leaves its mother's embrace, it faces danger, but society does not consist only of the law of the jungle; there are also hands of service and sharing." She then pledged, "I will create a fair, innovative, and inclusive provincial administration so that residents can take pride in being Gyeonggi citizens."
