He continued, "Based on our existing experience in supplying quantum solutions, we expect this acquisition to further accelerate the development of various quantum platforms across the industry."
CEO de Masi explained that through this acquisition, IonQ will be able to accelerate its quantum computing roadmap while securing a fully scalable supply chain within the United States. He said, "This combination will lay the groundwork for fully implementing semiconductor-based manufacturing methods necessary for the production of next-generation quantum computers, while ensuring the continuation of the high quality and service that SkyWater has provided to its customers." He emphasized, "By securing capabilities in secure chip design, manufacturing, and packaging, we will achieve complete vertical integration across quantum applications spanning land, sea, air, and space domains."
SkyWater: "A Turning Point in Entering the Quantum Manufacturing Phase"
Thomas Sonderman, CEO of SkyWater, stated, "Becoming part of IonQ is an important turning point in SkyWater's growth journey," adding, "At a time when quantum computing is moving beyond the research phase and entering full-scale manufacturing, we have served as the optimal development and production partner for both public and private sector customers as the largest semiconductor foundry company in the United States."
CEO Sonderman said, "Through the combination with IonQ, our diverse engineering capabilities for developing next-generation quantum chips will be further strengthened, enabling us to increase speed, precision, and production scale simultaneously." He added, "Services for existing semiconductor foundry customers will remain unchanged, and we will provide a broader range of services encompassing quantum sensing and quantum networking solutions."
Operated as a Subsidiary... Existing Company Name and Customer Support Maintained
Following the completion of the acquisition process, SkyWater will operate as a subsidiary of IonQ while retaining its existing company name. CEO Sonderman will continue to lead SkyWater's management and report directly to CEO de Masi. IonQ plans to continue supporting advanced technology development, wafer production, and advanced packaging services, as well as key businesses previously provided to existing SkyWater customers, including atomic clocks and quantum interconnects.
