Global financial markets are closely watching whether international gold prices can hold the $4,000 per ounce level. As geopolitical variables and U.S. monetary policy outlooks simultaneously intersect, key indicators that will determine the direction of the gold market are drawing attention.

As of August 1, Korean time, the price of August 2026 international gold futures traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) recorded $4,049.10 per ounce (OZS). This represents a decline of $51.00 (1.24%) from the previous trading day.

Domestic gold prices also varied by dealer. On the same day, Korea Gold Exchange traded pure gold (3.75g) at 823,000 won for buying and 692,000 won for selling. Goldprice.com listed the selling price of pure gold (3.75g) at 817,000 won and the buying price at 703,000 won.

The market has identified the Middle East situation as another key variable. U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has decided to postpone military action against Iran, which had been previously discussed for this weekend. Through social media, he explained that a consensus had been reached on a certain level of agreement framework with Iran and surrounding Middle Eastern countries, and that he accepted their request to delay military action.

At the same time, various economic variables such as U.S. interest rate outlook, the value of the dollar, and inflation trends are simultaneously at play, leading to analysis that it is difficult to predict the impact of this issue on gold prices. Investors are closely watching whether international gold prices can continue to defend the psychological support level of $4,000 per ounce, and what ripple effects future U.S. economic indicators and changes in the Middle East situation will have on the gold market.
