The KOSDAQ market recorded a double-digit gain on the last trading day of July, putting the recovery of the 720 level within reach. Investors are closely watching whether the upward trend will continue on the first trading day of August.
According to the Korea Exchange, the KOSDAQ index closed at 719.76 on July 31, up 74.98 points (11.63%) from the previous trading day. As investor sentiment recovered rapidly following the recent sharp decline, massive buying inflows centered on growth stocks.
Most of the top market capitalization stocks showed strength. Semiconductor equipment stocks stood out. Wonik IPS surged 27.92%, and PSK also rose 27.81%. Jusung Engineering jumped 26.65%, while Rainbow Robotics (16.09%), Reno Industry (16.12%), Ecopro (12.04%), and Ecopro BM (7.25%) all climbed together.
Biotech stocks were also solid. Alteogen rose 10.38%, ABL Bio gained 9.87%, and HLB increased 2.17%, expanding the tailwind across the upper ranks of KOSDAQ market capitalization.
External factors are expected to influence the first trading day of August. On the last trading day of July, the U.S. New York stock market closed higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.53%, the S&P 500 index climbed 0.70%, and the Nasdaq Composite Index gained 1.00%, with investor sentiment improving mainly around tech stocks.
However, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain a variable. According to U.S. media reports, the United States and Israel are planning one of the largest-ever strike operations targeting Iran's energy infrastructure over the weekend.
Accordingly, on the first trading day of August, domestic and international issues such as U.S. market trends, international oil prices, and Middle East developments are expected to determine the direction of the KOSDAQ market. However, hasty judgments or speculative expectations should be avoided.
