With BLACKPINK just two days away from their 10th debut anniversary, fans' disappointment is deepening. Debuted on August 8, 2016, the group rose to global stardom with a string of hit songs including "Whistle," "Boombayah," "Playing With Fire," "How You Like That," "Pink Venom," "Shut Down," and "JUMP."
Fellow third-generation girl groups such as Red Velvet, TWICE, and I.O.I each celebrated their 10th anniversaries with a variety of activities, including mini-album releases, fan meetings, new song releases, and concerts, connecting with their fans. In contrast, BLACKPINK has so far only released collaborative merchandise in partnership with the National Museum. With no official commemorative events announced, fans' expectations are being let down.
In 2023, BLACKPINK signed an exclusive contract with YG Entertainment for group activities, while maintaining a "separately but together" system in which individual activities are handled through each member's respective agency. The recently released EP "DEADLINE" was also unveiled without official promotional activities. The members have been demonstrating their presence both as individuals and as a group, charting on major overseas charts such as Billboard with solo albums and receiving invitations to global music festivals.
BLACKPINK, who have primarily focused on world tours and concerts, have had fewer group schedules such as music show appearances and fan meetings compared to other idol groups. Fans have understood this given the group's global scale, but they are hoping for a special event as an exception for their 10th debut anniversary.
In particular, with only two days remaining until the anniversary, fans are hoping for at least a group live broadcast featuring all four members together. However, with each member's individual schedule actively underway and uncertainty over whether all four members will be in Korea on the day of the anniversary, fans are caught between expectation and disappointment.
