North Korea launched an unidentified projectile into the East Sea on the 6th. The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that it immediately launched an analysis operation to determine the exact type and flight characteristics of the projectile. Military authorities are focusing on the possibility that the projectile is a ballistic missile and are investigating specific specifications including range, altitude, and speed. If confirmed as a ballistic missile, it would mark North Korea's first ballistic missile launch in 42 days.

The South Korean military, in close coordination with the ROK-U.S. intelligence authorities, is fully prepared for the possibility of additional launches by North Korea. Japan's Ministry of Defense also announced that a projectile believed to be a ballistic missile was launched by North Korea and is reportedly gathering information on its potential impact on the country.

This launch follows a series of weapons tests by North Korea. Previously, on June 25, a test launch of tactical weapons targeting South Korea was conducted under the observation of Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong Un. At that time, tactical ballistic missiles, 155mm self-propelled howitzer extended-range projectiles, and an improved 240mm 24-tube multiple launch rocket system were deployed. Subsequently, on July 3, a test launch of strategic cruise missiles mounted on the new 5,000-ton-class destroyer 'Kang Geon' was also conducted.
