SK Hynix has decided to make a new facility investment totaling 54.3246 trillion won in the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster and the Cheongju production base to respond to growing memory demand.
On the 7th, SK Hynix held a board meeting and announced that it resolved to invest 35.2246 trillion won in the construction of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster Phase 2 Fab and 19.1 trillion won in the construction of Cheongju M17, respectively. The company stated that the purpose of this investment is to preemptively secure mid- to long-term production infrastructure.
Looking at the detailed investment breakdown, the 35.2246 trillion won allocated to the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster accounts for 29.19% of the company's consolidated equity capital as of the end of the most recent fiscal year. Through this project, which will run from August 7, 2026, to October 31, 2031, the company plans to complete the construction of Phase 2 Fab's Phase 1 through 6.
A total of 19.1 trillion won will be invested in the construction of Cheongju M17. This represents 15.83% of equity capital, with the investment period spanning from August 7, 2026, to April 30, 2031. Through the Cheongju base, the company intends to establish core production infrastructure to address rising memory demand, similar to its plans for Yongin.
However, the company added that the investment amount may fluctuate depending on the future investment progress and changes in the business environment, and that the start and end dates of the investment may also be adjusted based on project execution status.
Meanwhile, SK Square also disclosed the same details regarding its subsidiary SK Hynix's decision on this new facility investment as a key management matter.
