Since debuting on August 8, 2016, with the single 'SQUARE ONE,' BLACKPINK has released numerous hit songs including 'Whistle,' 'Boombayah,' 'Playing with Fire,' 'DDU-DU DDU-DU,' 'Forever Young,' 'Lovesick Girls,' and 'Kill This Love,' rising to become a world-class girl group.
In 2023, following their contract renewal, the group continued with album releases and a world tour, but fan meetings and regular group content were limited. For their 8th debut anniversary, there was a red carpet event and live broadcast to commemorate the release of their concert film, but subsequent commemorative events were rare.
Amid this, BLACKPINK's agency, YG Entertainment, announced on the 6th through the fan community platform Weverse that it would hold a fan event in Seoul on the afternoon of the 8th to mark the group's 10th debut anniversary. However, the agency decided not to disclose the specific time and location, opting to notify only the selected winners individually, and limited attendance to 40 people. It was also announced that only some members, rather than all, would be in attendance. Eligibility to apply was restricted to users who had subscribed to Weverse membership by July 31.
Once these event guidelines were revealed, fans expressed continuous complaints on online communities and social media regarding the event's scale, timing of the announcement, scope of member participation, and application requirements. Fans shared various reactions, with comments such as "Is it right to invite only 40 people for a 10th anniversary?" "Not even disclosing the time and location," and "It seems like a show for appearances."
In particular, some pointed out the lack of communication with fans, noting that BLACKPINK has not posted any content or held live broadcasts on Weverse for over a year. Additionally, when YG PLUS recently announced that it would sell and exhibit the 'BLACKPINK Heritage Collection,' a collaboration between BLACKPINK and the National Museum product brand 'MUTZ,' starting on the 8th, some fans expressed regret that commemorative merchandise and exhibitions were prepared swiftly, while content for direct communication with fans remained lacking.
Meanwhile, when Rosé was recently spotted at a private restaurant in Los Angeles, California, USA, concerns arose that she might not attend BLACKPINK's 10th anniversary event. In response, The Black Label issued an official statement on the 7th, promising her attendance and stating, "Rosé has prioritized this event for a long time and has secured and confirmed all schedules in advance to share this precious moment with her fans." The Black Label also added, "Please refrain from unverified speculation and indiscriminate criticism."
Regarding this 10th anniversary event, voices within the fandom have emerged saying, "We were not hoping for a comeback or world tour; even a short live broadcast or small event with all four members together would have been enough." BLACKPINK's 10th anniversary event is reportedly set to have only some members in attendance, and fans' disappointment continues.
