Broadcaster Shin Dong-yeop has personally apologized amid controversy over remarks that were perceived as disparaging toward Daehakro performances.

On the 3rd, Shin Dong-yeop discussed the topic of musicals with Boom, Nucksal, and Han Hae on his YouTube channel 'Salty Brother Shin Dong-yeop.' During the conversation, he made remarks to the effect that Daehakro mainly has small theaters and that he does not perform in musicals there. He added that most Daehakro performances are small theater musicals and that performers do not need to wear microphones.

When the remarks were made public, some viewers interpreted them as dismissive of Daehakro stages and small theater musicals. Online criticism followed, with commenters arguing that he had oversimplified the reality of Daehakro performances and treated the efforts of the actors and staff who take the stage there too lightly. In particular, critics pointed out that musicals of various scales and formats are actively staged in Daehakro, and that industry professionals continue to put in passionate effort.

As the controversy grew, Shin Dong-yeop directly addressed the issue on the 6th through a post on the 'Salty Brother Shin Dong-yeop' community. He stated, "I sincerely bow my head and apologize to everyone who was hurt and disappointed by my thoughtless remarks during the recent 'Salty Brother' broadcast."

He went on to emphasize that Daehakro holds a special place for him. Shin Dong-yeop explained, "I have watched numerous masterpieces such as 'Subway Line 1' and 'Finding Mr. Destiny' in Daehakro, feeling deep resonance and inspiration. Because of that, I have always had affection and respect for the Daehakro stage and the performing arts."

He acknowledged that during his conversation with the cast, he leaned too much into joking and failed to consider the actual environment of the venue and the hard work of many people. He apologized once again, saying, "I once again deeply apologize from the bottom of my heart to everyone who felt uncomfortable or hurt by my lacking remarks." He also pledged, "Going forward, I will be more careful with my words and actions in any setting, and I will always maintain a humble heart toward the dedication of those who create stage art."
