A severe heatwave with temperatures nearing 40 degrees Celsius continues in areas including Nowon-gu in Seoul, Hanam-si in Gyeonggi Province, and Gwangyang-eup in Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do. Accordingly, the Korea Meteorological Administration downgraded the 'severe heatwave warning' to a 'heatwave advisory' as of 6 p.m. on the 7th for most of the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul, the Yeongseo region of Gangwon Province, and the Honam region. In particular, the severe heatwave warning issued for Seoul at 11 a.m. on the 4th was lifted after four days.

Amid this extreme heat, the Korea Road Traffic Authority announced on the 8th that it would temporarily adjust its operational policies to ensure the safety of driver's license functional test candidates and staff. In consideration of the ongoing heatwave advisories and severe heatwave warnings, the policy is to temporarily scale down or suspend functional tests.

Test schedules will be concentrated in the morning hours when temperatures are relatively lower. In the afternoon, the number of tests will be flexibly adjusted by reducing the number of sessions or suspending them entirely depending on the feels-like temperature.

The operational standards are as follows: • Feels-like temperature 35 degrees or above: Functional test sessions reduced • Feels-like temperature reaches 38 degrees: Functional tests fully suspended

The authority plans to separately notify existing test reservation holders of the changed schedules. In addition, each driver's license test center is providing mobile outdoor air conditioners, shade canopies, and parasols to concurrently implement preventive measures against heat-related illnesses for test candidates and on-site staff.

A Korea Road Traffic Authority official stated, "As the extreme heatwave continues, we will temporarily suspend or scale down functional test operations for the safety of test candidates and on-site staff."
