A fire broke out on the morning of the 8th in a 13-story apartment in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, claiming the lives of a mother in her 90s and her daughter in her 60s. The incident also caused a commotion as about 40 apartment residents were forced to evacuate in a hurry.

According to fire authorities on the 8th, a report was received at approximately 4:35 a.m. that day stating that smoke was coming from a second-floor unit in an apartment located in Gwonseon-gu. Fire authorities dispatched 18 pieces of equipment and 54 personnel, bringing the blaze under control in about 20 minutes.

The unit where the fire occurred was home to a woman in her 90s, identified as A, and her daughter in her 60s, identified as B, both of whom had difficulty moving around. During an interior search, firefighters discovered the two in a state of cardiac arrest. They were immediately transported to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed.

No additional casualties occurred from the fire beyond the deceased mother and daughter, and it was confirmed that only the two were residing in the unit. Police and fire authorities plan to conduct a joint on-site investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
