On Saturday the 8th, while heat advisories continue nationwide, heavy rain is expected in some areas such as the East Coast due to the influence of Typhoon 'Dolphin,' resulting in a mix of heat and rain.
Heavy Rain on East Coast and Showers Nationwide Forecast According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), rain will begin in the Gangwon East Coast and mountainous areas from early morning, expanding to the North Gyeongsang East Coast and northeastern mountainous areas by morning, and to Jeju's mountainous and mid-mountainous areas by the daytime. In particular, heavy rain advisories have been issued for the Gangwon East Coast and mountainous areas, the northern North Gyeongsang East Coast, and northeastern mountainous areas due to the direct and indirect effects of Typhoon Dolphin. These regions are forecast to receive up to 150mm or more of heavy rain, with a possibility of very strong rainfall reaching 30–50mm per hour, requiring special caution. Jeju's mountainous and mid-mountainous areas are also expected to receive 10–60mm of precipitation. Elsewhere, localized showers of 5–40mm are expected from daytime through the evening in the Seoul metropolitan area, western Gangwon, the inland areas of Chungcheong and Jeolla, and the inland Gyeongsang region. Some eastern inland areas of North Gyeongsang may see trace amounts of rain under 0.1mm in the morning. On Sunday the 9th, 5–40mm of rain is expected in Busan, Ulsan, the central and eastern inland areas of South Gyeongsang, Ulleungdo and Dokdo, and the Jeju coast.
Feels-Like Temperature Reaches 35°C Under Heat Advisories… Tropical Nights Persist Heat advisories will continue across most of the country, excluding the East Coast where rain is falling, with feels-like temperatures expected to soar to around 35°C. Morning low temperatures will range from 22–27°C, with major cities such as Seoul, Incheon, Suwon, Cheongju, Busan, and Jeju recording temperatures around 27°C. Daytime high temperatures will climb to 26–37°C. Major cities including Seoul, Incheon, Suwon, Cheongju, Daejeon, Jeonju, Gwangju, and Daegu will see daytime temperatures rise above 35°C, while East Coast areas such as Gangneung, where rain clouds are present, will see daytime highs limited to around 27°C. Nighttime temperatures will not drop below 25°C, leading to frequent tropical night conditions. The KMA urged the public to take extra care of their health as the heat wave is expected to persist. Air quality nationwide is expected to maintain 'good' levels of fine dust concentration.
Caution Urged for Safety Accidents at Valleys and Coastlines While skies will be generally cloudy nationwide, the East Coast and Jeju Island will continue to see overcast weather. Rainy areas may experience strong winds and lightning, so caution is advised during outdoor activities. In particular, valley water levels can rise rapidly during heavy rain, potentially leading to isolation or casualties, requiring thorough vigilance from those engaging in water activities and camping. At sea, strong winds and swell may occur. Waves are predicted to reach 0.5–3.5m in the East Sea coastal waters, 0.5–2.0m in the West Sea coastal waters, and 0.5–2.5m in the South Sea coastal waters. In offshore waters, wave heights are expected to reach 0.5–3.5m in the East Sea, 0.5–4.0m in the West Sea, and 1.5–4.0m in the South Sea. In particular, strong winds are forecast for the seas around Jeju Island and the southern waters, and swells may flow into the southern and Jeju coasts, necessitating caution against coastal safety accidents.
Sun Allergy Prevention and Response Tips As ultraviolet (UV) rays intensify, caution is also advised regarding sun allergy symptoms. UV exposure can cause rashes, itching, stinging, redness, and blisters on exposed areas such as arms, the backs of hands, the neck, and legs. Special care is needed for those with allergy-prone constitutions or sensitive skin. If symptoms are severe, hospital treatment is recommended. For mild symptoms, home remedies using green tea spray, aloe vera, or potato, cucumber, or watermelon rinds to soothe the skin can be helpful.
