KOSDAQ Index Surges Over 5%... 18th Buy-Side Sidecar of the Year Triggered, Temporarily Halting Trading

The KOSDAQ market surged over 5%, triggering a buy-side sidecar for the 18th time this year. The KOSDAQ's upward trend is pronounced, with sidecars triggered three times in just six trading days this month.
At approximately 9:50:48 a.m. on the 10th, the KOSDAQ 150 futures rose by 83.30 points (6.05%) from the previous day's close to record 83.30 points, and the KOSDAQ 150 index also climbed 85.63 points (6.25%). In response, the Korea Exchange triggered a buy-side sidecar in the KOSDAQ market.
A sidecar is activated when the KOSDAQ 150 futures price remains more than 6% above the base price and the KOSDAQ 150 spot index stays more than 3% above the previous trading day's closing price for over one minute, suspending the effectiveness of program buy orders for five minutes.
Around 9:58 a.m., when the sidecar was lifted, the KOSDAQ index stood at 838.60, up 4.86% from the previous day. Just before, at 9:57 a.m., it had risen by 39.79 points (4.98%) to 838.6, and by 10:04 a.m., it was at 838.94, up 5.02%, maintaining an increase in the 5% range. At the same time, the KOSPI showed a 0.61% gain at 6,297.03.
Sidecars have been triggered a total of 31 times in the KOSDAQ market this year, 18 of which were on the buy side. Earlier this month, buy-side sidecars were also activated on the 3rd and 4th, following one on the 31st of last month.
