A large-scale personal data breach has occurred at E Broadcasting, the operator of the economy and finance-focused YouTube channel "Sampro TV." Information belonging to approximately 460,000 members has been confirmed to have been exposed externally.

E Broadcasting reported the incident to the Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and is providing individual notifications to affected members.

The scope of the leaked information varies by member. Leaked items include names, profiles, mobile phone numbers, email addresses, residential addresses, bank account details (bank name, account number, account holder name), service usage records, device information, card names, and partially masked card numbers. Specifically, two addresses, 2,972 bank account records, and 317 credit card records were exposed.

However, the company stated that unique identification information such as resident registration numbers and sensitive data were not leaked because they are not collected by the company.

According to E Broadcasting, after detecting signs of suspected unauthorized access by an external party on the Sampro TV application earlier this month, the company immediately launched an investigation. The investigation revealed that an external actor had illegally accessed the system and maliciously obtained the personal data of some members.

The company emphasized that subscriber information for the Sampro TV YouTube channel is unrelated to this incident.

Immediately after confirming the breach, E Broadcasting swiftly implemented security measures, including blocking the intrusion point and the relevant IP addresses, and is concurrently conducting an assessment with an external security firm.

The company is preparing victim relief and customer support measures, with specific details to be announced via a separate notice no later than the 31st of this month.

E Broadcasting urged members to exercise extra caution against attempts to exploit personal data, such as phone calls or text messages impersonating Sampro TV. The company advised users to avoid clicking on links or attachments and to immediately delete or report any communication from unclear or suspicious sources.
