Typhoon 'Doksuri' is wreaking havoc along China's eastern coast, causing massive casualties and property damage. According to foreign news outlets including Reuters, at least hundreds of thousands of people have been evacuated to safe zones in the eastern coastal areas of Zhejiang Province, Fujian Province, and Shanghai, with the total number of evacuees in the affected areas estimated to exceed one million.

◆ Consecutive Landfalls on the 9th... Accompanied by Winds Reaching 42 m/s According to reports from China's state-run Xinhua News Agency and China Central Television (CCTV) on the 10th, Typhoon Doksuri made its first landfall along the coast of Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, at approximately 5:30 p.m. the previous day (the 9th), and then made a second landfall along the coast of Leqing City, Zhejiang Province, around 6:00 p.m., about 30 minutes later. At the time of landfall, the maximum wind speed near the typhoon's center reached 42 meters per second. As a result, the local area suffered a series of wind-related damages, including trees being uprooted and bicycles being overturned.

Initially, the typhoon was not expected to directly impact China, but local media reports indicated that it rapidly intensified over the western North Pacific, developing into a super typhoon with maximum wind speeds of 58 meters per second.

◆ Shanghai Records Heaviest Rainfall Since 1951... Missing Person Reported In Shanghai, torrential rain that began pouring the previous morning flooded the city, submerging around 100 urban roads and underpasses. Daily rainfall exceeded 200 mm in some areas, and Shanghai's Xujiahui and Pudong districts broke records for the highest single-day rainfall since 1951. Social media saw numerous posts showing citizens riding electric scooters across flooded roads or wading through knee-deep water, highlighting the severity of the damage.

The scale of the damage is also being tallied. In Wenling City, Zhejiang Province, an accident was reported on the 7th, two days before the typhoon's landfall, in which a 9-year-old boy went missing due to high waves. The official casualty toll in China has not yet been finalized. The China Meteorological Administration forecasted that heavy rain would continue along the eastern coast through the 12th. In particular, very heavy rain was forecasted for parts of Zhejiang and Anhui provinces, and authorities are maintaining emergency vigilance to prevent secondary disasters such as landslides, floods, and urban inundation.

◆ Aviation and Maritime Logistics Paralyzed... Container Overturning Accident Also Occurs in Taiwan Transportation and logistics networks, directly hit by the typhoon, also suffered major blows. At Shanghai's Pudong and Hongqiao airports, approximately 60% of all flights—totaling 1,300 to 1,400—were cancelled, and around 300 flights were cancelled at Hangzhou Airport. Meanwhile, Taiwan also fell within the influence of Typhoon Doksuri, receiving a total of 632 disaster reports and six injuries as of the 9th. At Keelung Port in northern Taiwan, a chain-reaction accident occurred in which large containers were toppled by strong winds, but fortunately, there were no casualties.
