As three typhoons — Typhoon No. 13 'Dolphin,' Typhoon No. 15 'Chan-hom,' and Typhoon No. 16 'Peilou' — formed in succession in the western Pacific, attention is focused on the weather conditions on the Korean Peninsula. However, the Korea Meteorological Administration stated that, based on the expected paths of these typhoons, the likelihood of a direct impact on South Korea is low. The following is a summary of each typhoon's trajectory and the domestic weather outlook.

■ Typhoon No. 13 'Dolphin' Makes Landfall in China... 1 Million Evacuated in Shanghai and Other Areas Typhoon No. 13 'Dolphin' made landfall on the coast of Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, at 5:30 p.m. on the 9th, and then re-landed on the coast of Leqing City, Zhejiang Province, around 6:00 p.m. the same day. At the time, the maximum wind speed near the center reached 42 meters per second.

Due to the impact of Dolphin, at least 210,000 people evacuated in eastern Chinese regions including Zhejiang Province, Fujian Province, and Shanghai, with Reuters reporting that the total number of evacuees exceeded 1 million. In Shanghai, about 100 urban roads and underpasses were flooded, and some areas experienced heavy rainfall exceeding 200 mm in a single day. Flight operations were also disrupted, with approximately 1,400 flights canceled each at Shanghai Pudong Airport and Hongqiao Airport, and about 300 flights canceled at Hangzhou Airport. Dolphin is expected to move north into inland China while gradually weakening.

■ Typhoon No. 15 'Chan-hom'... Strong Winds and Rain Expected on East Coast in the Latter Half of This Week Typhoon No. 15 'Chan-hom,' which is expected to approach closest to the Korean Peninsula among the three typhoons, was located approximately 1,030 km southeast of Tokyo, Japan, as of 3:00 a.m. on the 10th. It is currently moving westward from the far eastern waters of Japan.

Chan-hom is forecast to weaken into a tropical depression around the 12th, but the remaining rain cloud bands may flow into the East Sea around the 13th. Accordingly, strong winds and rain are expected mainly along the East Coast and the Yeongdong region of Gangwon Province in the latter half of this week. However, the likelihood of Chan-hom making direct landfall on the Korean Peninsula or its strong wind radius covering South Korea has been analyzed as low.

■ Typhoon No. 16 'Peilou' Forms... Expected to Weaken into a Tropical Depression on the 12th Typhoon No. 16 'Peilou,' named by Macao and meaning a species of bird, formed at 3:00 a.m. on the 10th approximately 840 km north-northeast of Guam and is moving rapidly eastward.

With a central pressure of 996 hPa, a maximum wind speed of 20 m/s, a moving speed of 49 km/h, and a strong wind radius of 220 km, its intensity is rated at level 1. Peilou is expected to reach approximately 1,130 km northeast of Guam by 3:00 p.m. on the 10th, about 1,550 km offshore by 3:00 a.m. on the 11th, and roughly 1,760 km offshore by 3:00 p.m. on the 11th.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast that Peilou will weaken into a tropical depression around 3:00 p.m. on the 12th, approximately 2,470 km northeast of Guam. By the morning of the 13th, it is predicted to fully transform into a tropical depression, meaning its impact on the Korean Peninsula will be very low. The administration is continuously monitoring the future movement paths of the three typhoons, as their trajectories and strength may change depending on the surrounding pressure system configuration.

■ Domestic Weather... Heat Wave to Persist for Now, Wind and Rain Advisories for Gangwon and Jeju Until the morning of the 10th, around 5 mm of rain fell in the Gangwon East Coast and mountainous areas, the Gyeongsang region, and Jeju Island, with light rain continuing through the morning in southern Chungbuk, Jeonbuk, and the southern coast of Jeonnam.

The heat wave is expected to continue for the time being. Daytime highs are forecast to range from 27 to 34 degrees, with morning lows on the 11th expected between 19 and 25 degrees and daytime highs between 27 and 34 degrees. Due to the influence of easterly winds, dense fog and drizzle are expected in the Gangwon mountainous areas, while gusts of 70 km/h or higher (90 km/h in mountainous areas) are forecast for Jeju Island, requiring special attention to facility management and safety accident prevention.
