Yeongdeungpo-gu has raised concerns about potential damage to parks and residential environments due to the construction of the Seoul Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit Line B (GTX-B), and has requested the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) to implement strong measures, including relocating ventilation shafts and adjusting the route.

Urging Relocation of Ventilation Shaft and Prevention of Park Damage The district pointed out that the ventilation shaft (#13), originally planned to be installed in Jungmaru Park, could result in the loss of more than half of the park. As an alternative, it proposed using the green space south of the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service near the Yeongdeungpo Rotary (approximately 930 sq. meters of road site), or integrating it with the ventilation shaft at Yeouido Station inside Yeouido Park, located 1 kilometer away. It also officially demanded a complete reconsideration of the location of ventilation shaft (#14), which was changed to a residential area in front of Yeouidong-ro. Originally scheduled to be installed inside the branch of the Han River toward the Dongjak direction, shaft #14 was relocated during the design process due to flooding risks and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH)'s plan to sell the site. The district argued that if a hydraulic analysis is conducted in accordance with the detailed criteria for river occupancy permits, installing the ventilation shaft in the area outside the riverbank of the branch is also feasible, and requested renegotiation with the Han River Flood Control Office, the managing authority for the river branch.

Yeouidong-ro Construction Worsening Resident Inconvenience Currently, GTX-B construction in the Yeouidong-ro section is occupying all four lanes of the two-way road from the intersection in front of Ricenzia to near the entrance of Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital. Residents' protests over concerns about noise, traffic inconvenience, and deterioration of their living environment have continued for months. The district demanded that construction be temporarily suspended until the second residents' briefing session is held, and that a briefing session be organized with sufficient gathering of resident feedback and the direct attendance of the director of the responsible MOLIT department.

Demands Regarding Suseo-Gwangmyeong High-Speed Railway and Shinansan Line Along with these demands, Yeongdeungpo-gu also urged a route change for the "Suseo-Gwangmyeong High-Speed Railway," which passes beneath schools and large apartment complexes, as well as the early completion and opening of the "Shinansan Line" construction. The district stated its policy to actively respond by ensuring these demands are reflected in the national railway network project through consultations with relevant agencies, including MOLIT, project implementers, and contractors.

MOLIT Meeting and Future Stance Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Cho Yoo-jin met with Hong Ji-sun, Vice Minister of MOLIT, at the Jang Gi-jeo Land Development Exhibition Hall in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 7th and delivered a petition containing residents' opinions and the district's position. Mayor Cho requested active review, stating, "Practical alternatives must be prepared to protect residents' right to live and their residential environment." During the meeting, Vice Minister Hong Ji-sun of MOLIT stated, "We will proceed with the process of gathering resident opinions and review measures to minimize damage." Mayor Cho Yoo-jin reiterated, "While we understand the necessity of the national project, it must be implemented with sufficient consideration for residents' safety and residential environment," adding, "We will continue to communicate with relevant agencies until reasonable alternatives are prepared."
