On the afternoon of the 11th, a major fire broke out at an apartment in Gayang-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, leaving two residents in cardiac arrest and forcing around 40 others to evacuate.
According to fire authorities, the fire broke out on the 15th floor of an apartment in Gayang-dong at around 4:55 p.m. that day. Immediately after the fire started, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 80s were each found in cardiac arrest in the apartment's flower bed. They are believed to be residents of the unit where the fire occurred and appear to have fallen from a high floor shortly after the fire broke out.
The incident caused a commotion as approximately 40 apartment residents evacuated on their own. Fire authorities deployed 25 pieces of equipment and 87 personnel, bringing the main flames under control in about 20 minutes.
Fire authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
