The Social Gambling Industry Integrated Supervisory Commission (Chairman Choi Byung-hwan) and the Korea Center on Gambling Problems (Director Shin Mi-kyung) have rolled up their sleeves to prevent youth gambling problems. The two organizations held the "Youth Gambling Problem Prevention Leader Workshop" on the 7th at the Somerset Palace Hotel in Gwanghwamun, Seoul.

This workshop was part of a project promoted through cooperation between the Korea Center on Gambling Problems and Good Neighbors, based on funds donated by Hana Financial Group to the Community Chest of Korea. The event was attended by students and teachers in charge from 19 "Youth Gambling Prevention Practice Schools" (10 middle schools and 9 high schools), a program that supports gambling prevention education and club activities for middle and high schools in cooperation with 17 metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide.

The 2026 Gambling Prevention Practice Schools that participated included Seoul's Baemyeong High School, Gwangmun High School, and Sindobong Middle School; Gyeonggi Province's Gyeonggi Business High School, Daesong Middle School, Tongjin High School, Sungho Middle School, Wongok Middle School, Samgwoe Middle School, and Korea Mobility High School; Incheon Nam Middle School; Chungbuk Daeseong Girls' Middle School; Chungnam Songak Middle School; Jeonbuk Gunsan Middle School; Jeonnam Naju Industrial High School; Daejeon Namdaejeon High School; Gangwon Jeonin High School; Busan Yangjeong High School; and Jeju Halla Middle School.

The workshop consisted of various programs designed to help youth realize the importance of preventing gambling problems and lead prevention activities with their peers. Key contents included a meeting with a gambling addiction recoverer, relationship-building among participants, a demonstration of "After-School Detective Team: The Missing," an experiential content developed by the prevention and healing center, and an introduction to the planning process for excellent community prevention projects. The case of "Zero Round," a youth gambling prevention project conducted by the Green Tree Foundation and Kakao Bank, was also shared.

Director Shin Mi-kyung stated, "Preventing youth gambling problems is much more powerful when students themselves practice healthy choices and create a culture of prevention with their peers," adding, "We will actively support the spread of student-led prevention activities in schools going forward."

Meanwhile, the Korea Center on Gambling Problems is a public institution that provides counseling for gambling problem prevention and healing, operating regional centers in 15 locations nationwide. Anyone experiencing difficulties due to gambling problems, whether the individual or their family, can use the free counseling service.
