The death toll from the arson incident at an apartment management office in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province has risen to four.

On the morning of the 23rd of last month at approximately 8:29 a.m., a resident in his 70s surnamed Ryu sprayed flammable material and set fire to an apartment management office in Gyeongsan. Among the victims of this incident, a woman in her 50s, identified as A, ultimately passed away on the morning of the 11th, 19 days after the incident occurred. A had been receiving treatment at a specialized burn hospital in Daegu but was unable to recover. She was known to have served as an auditor for the apartment's residents' representative council.

With this latest death, the total number of victims in this incident has reached four. Previously, on the 24th of last month, a female resident in her 50s died, followed by a female residents' representative in her 50s and a female management office employee in her 50s on the 31st.

A total of eight people, including Ryu, sustained serious and minor injuries from the fire. Police have booked Ryu on charges of arson resulting in death and injury to a currently inhabited building and are investigating the case.

Ryu, who faces arson charges, is reportedly currently receiving treatment for full-body burns. He is said to be conscious but not yet in a condition to undergo police questioning. Police plan to conduct an in-person interrogation once Ryu's health recovers.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crime as well as whether it was a premeditated offense. The full details of the incident, including the motive, are expected to be clarified only after Ryu's condition improves.
