Hankook Tire & Technology announced on the 11th that it preliminarily tallied 5.6825 trillion won in revenue, 559.1 billion won in operating profit, and 317.2 billion won in net income on a consolidated basis for the second quarter of this year. These figures represent increases of 5.8%, 58.1%, and 77.5%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. Compared to the previous quarter, revenue and operating profit also grew by 6.9% and 10.3%, respectively, maintaining a solid growth trend.
This strong performance was driven by expanded sales of high-value-added products, including high-inch tires of 18 inches or larger and tires specifically designed for electric vehicles. Looking at the tire segment alone for the second quarter, revenue reached 2.8073 trillion won, up 11.8%, while operating profit rose 39.5% to 483.2 billion won, recording an operating margin of 17.2%.
Notably, high-inch tires of 18 inches or larger accounted for 49.5% of passenger car and light truck tire sales, and EV-exclusive products made up 31.8% of original equipment tire sales for passenger cars and light trucks. Hankook Tire has set annual targets of 51% for high-inch tires and 33% for EV tires this year. Supply of original equipment tires expanded in major markets such as Europe and China, while replacement tire demand remained steady. In particular, replacement tire sales increased significantly in China, driven by the growing adoption of electric vehicles.
Hankook Tire is also continuing to expand its supply of original equipment tires to premium automakers. In the second quarter, the company supplied OE tires to various global brands, including Porsche's '911 Carrera,' Audi's Q7 and Q9, and Infiniti's 'All-New QX65.' In the EV market, the company is expanding its product lineup centered on the 'iON' brand and actively utilizing driving data and technology acquired from the FIA Formula E World Championship in product development.
To strengthen its production and supply capabilities, the company is also pursuing expansions at its Tennessee plant in the United States and its Hungary plant in Europe. Through these efforts, Hankook Tire plans to proactively address demand in major markets such as the U.S. and Europe and further increase OE tire supply to global automakers.
Meanwhile, the second-quarter performance also included results from Hanon Systems, a thermal management subsidiary. Hanon Systems recorded revenue of 2.8752 trillion won and an operating profit of 103.7 billion won, turning to a net profit. Its operating margin also improved from 2.2% in the same period last year to 3.6%, contributing to the overall improvement in performance.
