The People Power Party strongly criticized the lack of policy consistency and selective responses to public sentiment following the recent decision by the government and the Democratic Party of Korea to reconsider the tax revision plan. People Power Party Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik pointed out at a party strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the 11th that the Lee Jae-myung administration and the Democratic Party decided to officially reconsider the hastily announced tax revision plan and also reversed the Individual Savings Account (ISA) reform plan and the push for legislation to prevent stock price suppression.

Floor Leader Jeong raised concerns that while the government and the ruling party pushed ahead with policies such as the abolition of supplementary investigation rights, the Yellow Envelope Act, and the so-called 'gag law' despite public opposition, they initiated a reconsideration of the tax revision plan citing public sentiment as the reason. He criticized the Democratic Party for arguing, 'Shouldn't a policy decided once be pushed through even if citizens raise issues?' while turning a deaf ear to the abolition of supplementary investigation rights, which a majority of citizens support. He also pointed out that the Yellow Envelope Act and the gag law were pushed forward despite ignoring public concerns.

Floor Leader Jeong then emphasized that government credibility must be enhanced through policy consistency, urging that major national policies be carefully reviewed before announcement rather than overturned within days. He added that since the hastily announced tax revision plan is being reconsidered, measures to address malignant unsold housing in provincial areas should also be swiftly prepared. He argued that applying identical regulations to both the metropolitan area and provincial regions, despite their different circumstances, threatens the provinces, and demanded a comprehensive real estate plan to resolve unsold housing in provincial areas.

At the same meeting, Representative Seo Il-jun, opposition secretary of the National Assembly's Public Administration Committee, pointed out that since the government announced the tax revision plan, concerns have been growing among monthly and jeonse tenants in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province about the weakening of their contract renewal rights. Representative Seo argued that what is needed is not a tax bomb but the guarantee of a stable housing environment, and that an adequate expansion of supply is more necessary than excessive regulation. He stated that he would persistently hold the government and ruling party accountable for their inadequate policies and attitudes.

Representative Bae Jun-young, opposition secretary of the National Assembly's Fiscal and Economic Planning Committee, criticized the shift in stance via social media, saying that the President suddenly shifted to reprimanding the government when the situation turned unfavorable. He also took issue with the Democratic Party's attitude of demanding reflection from the Ministry of Finance and Economy despite having crafted the tax revision plan through party-government consultations. Representative Bae noted that the legislative notice period for the tax revision plan was only 16 days, pointing out that pushing through a policy that significantly impacts citizens' lives in such a manner carries potential legal violations. He added that while a major overhaul is promised by the end of August, it is difficult to trust. He called for accountability for the disruption and damage caused to citizens' lives by the tax revision plan and urged that the plan be scrapped and withdrawn.

Meanwhile, Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik also strongly criticized Defense Minister Ahn Kyu-baek for recently introducing Mao Zedong's quotations as his personal motto. Floor Leader Jeong mentioned that Minister Ahn revealed during a visit to the Air Force Academy that he considers Mao Zedong's phrase 'chubianbujing' as his personal motto, criticizing it as highly inappropriate for a defense minister with suspicions of desertion to extol Mao Zedong's motto as if it were a golden rule in front of military academy cadets. He argued that having such a figure serve as a minister threatens national security from within and demanded the immediate dismissal of the Defense Minister.
