According to a poll by Ace Research, opposition (43.9%) to the government's real estate tax revision plan outweighed support (37.9%). A majority (52.3%) also expressed opposition to the abolition of the prosecution's supplementary investigation authority.

The survey was conducted on June 9-10, 2024, among 1,018 adults aged 18 and older nationwide using an ARS (100% wireless RDD) method. The response rate was 2.6%, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.

■ Real Estate Tax Revision Plan Shows Regional Divides Regarding the government's tax revision plan, which includes strengthening the comprehensive real estate holding tax and capital gains tax burdens on ultra-expensive housing and non-resident single-homeowners, 43.9% of all respondents opposed it while 37.9% supported it. 18.2% said they "did not know."

By region, opposition was dominant in Seoul (36.7% in favor, 45.3% opposed), Busan/Ulsan/Gyeongnam (38.0% in favor, 47.8% opposed), and Gangwon/Jeju (31.7% in favor, 48.8% opposed). Daegu/Gyeongbuk showed the largest gap in opposition, with 18.9% in favor and 64.5% opposed.

Incheon/Gyeonggi showed a close split with 39.5% in favor and 40.1% opposed, while Daejon/Sejong/Chungcheong recorded 40.9% in favor and 41.8% opposed. In contrast, Gwangju/Jeolla was the only region where support overwhelmingly led, with 53.7% in favor and 26.7% opposed.

By age group, opposition was notably higher among those in their 20s and 30s. Among respondents aged 18-29, 29.1% were in favor and 54.4% opposed, while those in their 30s recorded 23.0% in favor and 56.9% opposed.

Opposition was dominant in all regions except Gwangju/Jeolla (59.7% in favor, 28.1% opposed). The figures were as follows: Seoul 54.5% opposed/36.4% in favor, Incheon/Gyeonggi 50.7% opposed/41.0% in favor, Daejon/Chungcheong/Sejong 54.6% opposed/39.3% in favor, Daegu/Gyeongbuk 66.6% opposed/21.7% in favor, Busan/Ulsan/Gyeongnam 55.6% opposed/33.1% in favor, and Gangwon/Jeju 59.7% opposed/38.4% in favor.
