The international gold price, based on GC New York Mercantile Exchange, briefly exceeded $4,500 per ounce, drawing keen attention to domestic gold price trends as well.

■ Korea Gold Exchange Rates (as of August 13, 2026)

According to the Korea Gold Exchange, the purchase price of pure gold (3.75g) stood at 877,000 won, down 3,000 won from the previous day (a change of -0.34%), while the selling price remained flat at 732,000 won. The selling prices for 18K and 14K gold were 538,100 won and 417,300 won, respectively, both unchanged from the previous day.

Platinum recorded a purchase price of 346,000 won (-0.58%, down 2,000 won) and a selling price of 280,000 won (-0.71%, down 2,000 won). Silver also saw slight declines, with a purchase price of 12,300 won (-0.16%, down 20 won) and a selling price of 1,390 won (-0.1%, down 10 won).

■ GeumSise.com Rates

At GeumSise.com, the purchase price of pure gold also showed a downward trend. Pure gold (3.75g) was trading at a purchase price of 871,000 won (down 3,000 won) and a selling price of 745,000 won (no change). The selling prices for 18K and 14K gold remained at 549,000 won and 426,000 won, respectively, holding steady at the previous day's levels.

Platinum dropped by 2,000 won on both sides, with a purchase price of 340,000 won and a selling price of 283,000 won, while silver held flat with a purchase price of 12,000 won and a selling price of 11,250 won.

■ Attention Focused on U.S. Inflation Indicators

Meanwhile, as gold prices are highly sensitive to changes in U.S. benchmark interest rates and the value of the dollar, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) are drawing attention as key variables that will gauge the future direction of gold prices.

The U.S. July PPI, released on the 13th Korean time, rose 4.7% year-on-year, and core PPI also increased by 4.7%. The July CPI, released earlier on the 12th, was tallied at a 3.5% increase year-on-year.

The key question is how these inflation indicators will affect U.S. monetary policy. In particular, future decisions by the U.S. Federal Reserve are expected to determine the direction of gold prices.
