Miss Kim, the prospective village head of KBS1's "Hometown at Six," visited Handeumi Village in Danyang County, North Chungcheong Province, where she showcased a variety of experiences ranging from garlic and omija (five-flavor berry) tasting to cave exploration.

On the broadcast, Miss Kim received "bear" as a clue for finding the village's pride and set out to explore the village. The first place linked to the "bear" was the home of an elderly resident where garlic was hanging. The visit was inspired by the Dangun myth, in which a bear ate garlic and became a human.

When asked why the hanging garlic was so small, the elderly resident replied, "It's because I didn't farm it properly." Miss Kim also learned of a farming method in which small garlic, when replanted, grows into single-clove garlic. After hearing that "single-clove garlic is sweeter than ordinary multi-clove garlic," Miss Kim tasted it and was surprised by its unexpectedly pungent flavor.

■ Omija, the Berry of "Five Flavors"… Laughter at an Unannounced Sourness

Miss Kim then moved on to an omija field, where she tasted the berry known for its five flavors. Although she sampled it after being told it is good for the respiratory system, she was startled by its unexpectedly sour taste. When it was further explained that omija berries only turn sweet by mid-September, Miss Kim remarked, "You should have told me that before I ate it," adding laughter to the scene.

■ A Cave That Served as a Shelter During the Korean War… Observing Bats and Stalactites

Finally, Miss Kim explored a cave situated deep in the village. Inside, she showed wonder while observing bats and stalactites, and the fact that the cave had served as a shelter for village residents during the Korean War added special meaning to the visit.

Through garlic and omija experiences, a cave tour, and conversations with the elderly residents, Miss Kim introduced the diverse charms of Handeumi Village.
