US quantum computing-related stocks showed mixed performance on the New York Stock Exchange on the 14th (local time), with individual names moving in different directions.

■ IonQ and Rigetti Rise vs. Quantinuum and Qutrex Fall

On the day, IonQ rose 2.84% from the previous session. Rigetti Computing gained 1.07% and Infleqtion climbed 5.58%, while Quantum Computing also closed up 1.00%.

In contrast, Quantinuum fell 7.18%, posting a relatively steep decline, and Qutrex Quantum also dropped 2.01%.

■ US Retail Sales Fall 0.6% in July... Emerging as a Variable for the Market

The same day, an economic indicator reflecting US consumer trends came in weaker than expected, emerging as a potential variable for the New York stock market going forward. According to the US Department of Commerce, retail sales in July fell 0.6% from the previous month.

Some suggest that temporary factors, such as consumer spending being pulled forward by Amazon Prime Day held in June, may have partly contributed to the decline in retail sales. However, given the large share consumption holds in the US economy, continued signs of a consumer slowdown could affect the economic outlook as well as expectations for the Federal Reserve's (Fed) monetary policy.

Indeed, in the session on the 14th, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500, and the Nasdaq all closed lower.

■ Quantum Computing Stocks Sensitive to Interest Rates and Investor Sentiment

As tech stocks whose share prices heavily reflect growth expectations, quantum computing stocks are likely to react sensitively to the future interest rate outlook, movements in US Treasury yields, and shifts in investor sentiment.

Attention is focused on whether the weak July retail sales will stoke concerns of an economic slowdown or, conversely, be interpreted as a factor easing monetary policy burdens, as well as on how quantum computing stocks such as IonQ and Quantinuum will move in the US market next week.
