The KOSPI fell sharply in the regular session on the 19th, closing below the 6,500 mark.

The KOSPI index closed at 6,471.17, down 398.66 points (5.80%) from the previous trading day. With the index losing nearly 400 points in a single day, volatility in the domestic stock market has once again widened.

[Semiconductor Large-Caps Tumble in Unison... Pressuring the Index Downward]

Among top stocks by market capitalization, major large-caps including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix weakened across the board, weighing on the index.

Samsung Electronics closed at 247,500 won, down 7.82% from the previous trading day. SK Hynix plunged 9.75% to 1,500,000 won, posting an even steeper decline.

Samsung Electronics Preferred Shares closed at 173,700 won, down 7.75%, while SK Square ended the session at 1,004,000 won after a sharp 11.54% drop. Samsung Electro-Mechanics fell 3.68% to 1,387,000 won, and Hyundai Motor also finished down 4.83% at 414,000 won. KB Financial Group likewise declined 1.25% to 166,400 won.

[Secondary Batteries, Bio, and Defense Rise in 'Differentiation']

In contrast, some top market-cap stocks rose, showing a differentiated trend. LG Energy Solution closed up 1.57% at 356,500 won, and Samsung Biologics finished 0.85% higher at 1,544,000 won. Hanwha Aerospace also ended the session up 2.71% at 1,177,000 won.

Of the top 10 stocks by market capitalization, seven declined while only three rose. In particular, the steep declines of semiconductor large-caps drove the KOSPI into a bearish session, pushing it down more than 5%.

Going forward, market attention is expected to focus on whether the KOSPI can reclaim the 6,500 level after the plunge, along with the share price movements of large-caps such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
