Park Jung-hee, a forest manager who has run an 820,000-pyeong mountain for four generations, appears on EBS's 'Seo Jang-hoon's The Neighbor Millionaire' to share his life and philosophy.
A variety of forest products, including deodeok, wild lingonberry (gomchwi), and Solomon's seal, grow on the mountain Park owns in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province. He said these forest products trade at higher prices than expected. Park explained that while growing and harvesting trees is the foundation of forest management, various food sources are also produced beyond timber.
In this episode, Seo Jang-hoon and Jang Ye-won take part in a wild mountain ginseng harvesting experience, known as the 'simmani experience,' competing to find the 'best wild ginseng.'
Park was originally a public official but entered forest management at age 38 after his father had an accident. He said that having learned forest management from his father since childhood, he naturally chose this field.
He also revealed that he sold part of the mountain to pay inheritance taxes. Seo Jang-hoon expressed surprise, saying, 'It must have been about a million pyeong originally.' When asked about his plans for investing the proceeds from the land sale, Park answered, 'Just because I inherited it doesn't mean I can do whatever I want with it.'
In addition, a 6,000-pyeong campground that Park has cultivated over 20 years will be revealed for the first time through this broadcast. Opened in 2006, the campground offers visitors rest and healing in nature amid a lush pine forest. Park said he personally manages the campground every weekend and spends time with campers.
Also revealed is Park's daily routine of visiting his 90-year-old mother's house every morning to have breakfast together. When Seo Jang-hoon asked, 'You ask your 90-year-old mother to prepare breakfast for you?' Park responded with a meaningful smile.
Meanwhile, 'Seo Jang-hoon's The Neighbor Millionaire' airs on Wednesday, August 19, at 9:55 p.m.
