Samsung Life Insurance (032830) closed the regular session with a double-digit gain ahead of the weekend, though it gave back part of its rise in the after-hours market, Nextrade (NXT). Market attention is now focused on whether the bullish trend will continue when the new trading week opens on the 24th.

■ Surges 10.61% in Regular Session... Attempting to Settle in the 320,000-Won Range

In the regular session on the 21st, Samsung Life Insurance finished trading at 328,500 won, up 31,500 won (10.61%) from the previous trading day. It quickly climbed from the previous day's close of 297,000 won into the 320,000-won range, and during the session it rose as high as 329,000 won.

■ Gains Narrow on Nextrade

However, the strength somewhat eased in NXT, which opened after the regular session closed. Samsung Life Insurance finished the day's NXT session at 311,500 won on the 21st. While this is up 14,500 won (4.88%) from the previous day, it is 17,000 won lower than the regular session close.

■ Repeated Swings Over a Short Period... New-Week Volatility Is the Key Watching Point

Samsung Life Insurance's stock price has recently shown a highly volatile trend. After posting consecutive gains on the 17th and 18th, it fell back to 276,000 won in the regular session on the 19th, then rose again on the 20th and 21st, climbing above the 320,000-won level. With the stock price swinging sharply over a short period, whether volatility continues into the new week is seen as the key watching point.

The market's biggest interest is where the stock price will settle after the sharp short-term surge. Although it jumped more than 10% in the regular session, the gain narrowed to around 4% on NXT, so it remains to be seen whether buying interest flows back in after the market opens on the 24th or profit-taking sell orders emerge.
