Hwang Young Woong defended the top spot in the Net Grand Prix, which determines the highest honor of the August Netizen Awards. In the voting held throughout August, Hwang Young Woong took first place with a total of 62,136 votes (27.7% support).
The Net Grand Prix is an integrated stage where stars who stood out in each category of the Netizen Awards gather and compete. Since candidates from different fields—singers, actors, and groups—receive fans' choices across genre and generational boundaries, it is effectively known as the 'championship of champions' of the Netizen Awards. It carries great symbolism in that it allows one to gauge both a star's public influence and a fandom's cohesion beyond individual category results. As fans directly cast vote after vote to determine the top star, it holds meaning beyond mere rankings.
Hwang Young Woong retained the throne for the second consecutive month, surpassing the 60,332 votes he recorded in July. Even on a stage where leading contenders from various fields faced off, he demonstrated unwavering vote-gathering power, once again proving the presence of a powerful fandom.
■ Top Tier: Ranking Changes with Jang Han Byul's Surge
Meaningful changes appeared in the top tier of the rankings with the emergence of a new contender. Jang Han Byul stirred up a whirlwind by gathering 35,141 votes (15.6%) to jump straight to second place. Entering the leading group immediately upon joining the Net Grand Prix, he established himself as a new contender poised to shake up the future competitive landscape.
Jung Seo Joo took third place with 27,215 votes (12.1%), maintaining a double-digit vote share. Byeon Woo Seok rose to fourth with 18,841 votes (8.4%), and Jang Min Ho placed fifth with 13,994 votes (6.2%). Kim Hye Yoon ranked sixth with 11,371 votes (5.1%), and Son Tae Jin came in seventh with 11,035 votes (4.9%).
The fact that the top seven candidates from Hwang Young Woong down to Son Tae Jin all exceeded 10,000 votes demonstrates the intense competitive heat of the August Net Grand Prix. Rather than votes concentrating in a specific genre, stars from various fields—including trot, ballad, and acting—formed the top tier, completing the diverse competitive landscape characteristic of the Net Grand Prix.
■ Middle Tier: Fierce Competition with Narrow Vote Gaps
In the middle tier, crossover groups and popular singers competed with closely packed vote counts. Liberante rose to eighth with 6,454 votes (2.9%), and Bin Ye Seo took ninth with 6,190 votes (2.8%), entering the top 10. Enoch placed tenth with 4,892 votes (2.2%), and Min Soo Hyun sat at eleventh with 4,770 votes (2.1%). Jung Dong Won recorded twelfth with 4,381 votes (1.9%), Choon Gil ranked thirteenth with 3,937 votes (1.8%), Park Chang Geun fourteenth with 3,916 votes (1.7%), and Park Ji Hyun fifteenth with 3,496 votes (1.6%). With gaps between some candidates not being large, contests continued in which rankings were difficult to predict until the final moments of voting.
■ Lower Tier: Fans' Support Continued Until the End
Even in the lower tier, fans' support for the stars representing each category continued until the very last moment. Maijin rose to sixteenth with 2,550 votes (1.1%), and the 'King of Singers' Cho Yong Pil took seventeenth with 1,820 votes (0.8%). Actress Lee Se Young placed eighteenth with 1,650 votes (0.7%), while Gu Chang Mo recorded nineteenth with 612 votes (0.3%) and Fortena twentieth with 279 votes (0.1%).
With Hwang Young Woong's defense of the throne atop the rankings, Jang Han Byul's rapid rise, and the solid support bases of established heavyweights coming together, the August Net Grand Prix produced a rich narrative until the very end.
